Hello. My name is Rich. You may not know me, but I'm going to ask you to do me a small favor. Actually, assuming you've found this website because you're into independent music in some way -- as an artist, fan, label, distributor, webcaster, or whatever -- I'm asking you to do yourself a small favor: On July 31th, 2008 or the nearest publication date, please place a FREE advertisement in your local arts newspaper or college newspaper -- Virtually all newspapers of this type offer FREE or dirt-cheap (< $5.00) "personal" advertisements of some kind.
Here is a suggested advertisement: "The best music is in your own back yard. Go see an indie band. Tip well. They deserve it. Courtesy of Indie Ad http://indiead.org and __your_band/name_here__"
You can also, of course, include an upcoming show like: "The best music is in your own back yard. Go see an indie band. Tip well. They deserve it. Courtesy Indie Ad http://indiead.org and __your_band/name_here__ @ VENUE Jul 22" You don't even have to "plug" Indie Ad if you don't want to! Promotion of Indie Music is my primary goal, and while this whole thing will "take off" better with more and more people being referred to this site, that's only of secondary concern to having you place your advertistement. You can use just your own band name and no "plug" at all, or if you're a fan, perhaps you know a band that would welcome the exposure -- If you're not 100% sure on that, contact the band first for permission though. Some bands/people have issues about the usage of their name. There are also some fine Sponsors whom you may feel it more appropriate to "plug". These Sponsors have given IndieAd and you permission to use their name in advertisements like the above. Some have "restrictions" however, so check here to be 100% sure you're kosher. If you dislike the actual wording of the ad above, just change it to whatever you like. I know I'm no Marketing guru, and it won't bother me in the least for you to fix it. Though, again, make sure it's in compliance with any restrictions the Sponsors have required. We'll probably be setting up some kind of "Co-Op" system where interested parties can get together to share the cost of a box ad for bigger future campaigns. For now, of course, feel free to contact people you already know to explore this idea. But do that after placing the FREE advertisement first. We're going after numbers here, not $$$ spent. There are others who can and already do out-spend us for the forseeable future. So it's much more important to get a lot of small advertisements rather than a few big ads anyway. In other words: You have to walk before you can run. Just do the FREE ad first. If you're too busy to read any further, just stop surfing now, and go place the ad! That's pretty much "it" -- If you feel like doing more (completely optional!) you can also:
